Another rendition of the famed Le Classique rivalry comes our way today, as Ligue 1 leaders PSG head to Stade Velodrome for a showdown against seventh-place Marseille. There aren’t many implications when it comes to the actual standings, as PSG seems intent on running away with another title, but none of that matters when it’s time for the biggest rivalry in France. It’s going to be big no matter what.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (fourth) and Kylian Mbappe (first) meet in a matchup between two of the top scorers in Ligue 1 when Olympique Marseille hosts Paris Saint-Germain on March 31, 2024 at Orange Velodrome beginning at 2:45 PM ET.

Last time out, Olympique Marseille suffered a 2-0 loss away from home to Stade Rennes while taking seven shots, the same as Stade Rennes side’s total. Aubameyang took two shots for goalless Olympique Marseille in their game against Stade Rennes.

In its most recent match on March 17, PSG beat Montpellier HSC 6-2 on the road. PSG outshot Montpellier HSC 16 to 13. PSG’s Mbappe scored three goals (on four shots) to lead PSG in the match.

To prepare for this soccer matchup, here is what you need to prepare for Sunday’s action.

How to watch Olympique Marseille vs. PSG

Match Day: Sunday, March 31, 2024

Match Time: 2:45 PM ET

TV: beIN Sports

Stadium: Orange Velodrome

Kylian Mbappe was given a hot reception despite being France's captain for the recent friendly win over Chile and he can expect an even more intimidating atmosphere this weekend given the absence of away supporters at Stade Velodrome. Losses to Villarreal and Stade Rennais have tempered a good start to life under Gasset and OM is back in the reckoning for Europe as well as into the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals.

Paris are quarterfinalists themselves in the UEFA Champions League although Marseille remains the only French club to boast that title -- for now. Les Phoceens are on a good run of form at home with four consecutive wins and have not suffered defeat on home soil across 90 minutes in any competition this season so far.

PSG are 12 points clear at the Ligue 1 summit coming into this weekend and have a Coupe de France semifinal to look forward to next week. Their 24-game unbeaten run across all competitions means that only Manchester City and Bayer Leverkusen are also unbeaten in 2024 while the form book in this fixtures certainly favors the away side.

Ismaila Sarr is out along with Jonathan Clauss, Amir Murillo, Bamo Meite, and Ulisses Garcia. Valentin Rongier is a long-term absentee while Jean Onana should also miss out. Samuel Gigot and Leonardo Balerdi could return albeit below optimal fitness with some reserve figures also required to fill out the squad.

Milan Skriniar has been closing on a recovery of late but Presnel Kimpembe and Marquinhos have been unavailable as well as Layvin Kurzawa. Bradley Barcola is also out while Marco Asensio has suffered another issue recently. Goncalo Ramos could come in next to Randal Kolo Muani and Mbappe in attack as PSG go for the jugular.

The forthcoming French Derby emerges as a pivotal fixture in the European soccer calendar, sharing the spotlight with the esteemed German Derby. As has become the norm in recent seasons, Paris Saint-Germain stands tall as the frontrunner and prime contender for the league title.

Presently, all signs point toward yet another triumph for Mbappe’s squad. However, succumbing to overconfidence would prove a grave error. Olympique Marseille, locked in a battle to secure qualification berths for international cups, perceive victory against their archrivals as pivotal to their aspirations.
